Chelsea Make UCL Semi-Finals
For the first time in seven years, Chelsea are on their way to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League (UCL) following their match with FC Porto on Tuesday, 13 April.
Playing away at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium in Seville, Spain, the Blues were able to keep their opponents at bay for the entirety of their clash. That is, until Mehdi Taremi scored for the Spaniards with a bicycle kick in the last minute of stoppage time.
Despite Porto’s 1-0 victory, however, it was the English club who was able to progress to the semi-finals – their first time doing so since 2014 – after winning 2-1 on aggregate.
After the game, Blues coach Thomas Tuchel said: “It’s a very, very big achievement. We are not used to being [in the semi-finals], and once you are there, you play for the final, it’s clear … We need every minute to learn and grow. You cannot improve without these experiences.”
Tuchel’s team will now face either Liverpool or Real Madrid in the UCL semi-finals on 27 April and 4 May.
